Chinese art was influenced by ideas from India, Central Asia and Southern Asia. When China first came into contact with Buddhism, Chinese artists also learned about Buddhist art styles from India which had a huge effect on Chinese art.

Chinese potters, perhaps trying to imitate Roman blown glass, which traders brought from Europe over the Silk Road,soon created porcelain. Around the same time, Chinese artists invented paper and began to use it for painting.
